Daily Pop News: Exclusive Interview with Brett Pruneau

by jodi marxbury

Hi Brett, thanks for sitting down with us today. Let’s start off by telling us a bit about your new single!
Hi! Thanks so much! My latest single is called ‘Sitting on Top of the World’ – it’s a real “feel-good” bop written by Australia’s Sweetheart, Delta Goodrem. There’s a real excitement in the arrangement and in the song itself which I felt was quite fitting for the way I was feeling about the Entertainment Industry beginning to finally come alive again.

How is it different from other songs you’ve put out in the past?
I
tend to sing a good number of soaring ballads- I love to tug at the heart strings and really convey emotion, oftentimes that of heartbreak or unrequited love.

This song is the complete other end of the spectrum – definitely more energized and smile-inducing. You can’t beat a good anthem about feeling on top of the world.

What’s the scariest part of releasing music for you?
I used to be scared about the reaction from listeners: “will they like it?”

Now that I’m getting older, that has definitely gone away… I get such a rush from releasing music that speaks to me personally. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s really about anyways…. It has to mean something to you.

I’m pushing my boundaries musical with the new material I have been working on lately and it’s the most invigorated I’ve ever felt in my career. I’m really proud of it.

We recently had a chance to check in with Brett and he was kind enough to respond to a few interview questions.

Welcome Brett! You released an EP recently, we are all in love with your voice. Tell us more about how the project came together?

Hey there! Thanks so much for chatting with me, I really appreciate it!

Yes! I just released my first EP called ‘The Real Thing’. It’s a collection of 5 songs which I really feel speaks to the heart of human connection- it really covers a lot of ground including love, friendship, empowerment and despair.

I started this project during the summer of the COVID-19 Pandemic, and it was a project born out of necessity, really... I had the very sad realization that my industry was not going to be bouncing back from this situation quickly at all and I knew I had to have some sort of creative outlet to keep me sane. I contacted my Producer, Brian McGrane, and we began piecing this collection together with songs I’d performed in the past and also several brand new ones exclusive to this project.

Fame Magazine: Exclusive Interview with Brett Pruneau

by Troy Johnstone

Thank you for chatting with us today! This has been crazy for most – what has been your biggest take away?

Hi there, it’s my pleasure! Wow, yea… “crazy” is an understatement. I think my biggest takeaway has simply been reaffirming for myself about that primal need I have to be creative. It’s like a life source for me — As soon as I realized we were going to have the stage stolen away due to this terrible Pandemic I went into survival mode and immediately began work on my latest EP, ‘The Real Thing’. I never dreamed that 8 months later I would be holding the finished product yet still be dealing with the repercussions of COVID-19.

We would love to learn more about you. Would you do a brief walkthrough of where you started and where you are now?

So I began my professional career at 17 when I was ‘discovered’ by a producer named David Downes. David had created the Multi-Platinum Irish Group ‘Celtic Woman’ and signed me to a development deal. I spent 4 years in Ireland working with some of the best in the business and developing my craft as a recording artist, musician and performer. After my time in Ireland I moved to NYC for several years and eventually fate led me to Las Vegas. I’ve headlined 3 different shows on Las Vegas Strip and have now transitioned into a lot more touring work. I keep Vegas as ‘home base’ for the moment and still perform throughout town quite regularly in addition to my traveling and recording work.

Indie Shark: Brett Pruneau Releases “Sun & Moon” Video (Premiere)

Hi Brett! Thanks for making time to chat with us today. You are releasing your new video for the song “Sun and Moon”. Congrats. Tell us about the concept of the video?

Hey there, thanks so much for the interest in ‘Sun & Moon’. This particular song is a tragic telling of ‘Love’ lost but not forgotten. We all have those people in our lives that we just can’t seem to shake… I teamed up with an incredible Cinematographer in Las Vegas named Eric Cannon to shoot this video out in Nelson, NV. He has such an incredible eye and his direction on this project was just exactly what I could have hoped for. There is a good bit of symbolism throughout the video… everything down to the lighting used for each character and even the choice of outfits for my love interest in the video, Dina Auneau… We definitely see a distraught lover pining over what used to be.

This is such a beautiful song. What made you connect with it?

I’m almost instantly attracted to a dramatic power ballad… *laughing* I feel like that energy just kind of courses through my veins. It’s exhilarating on a physical level to perform a song that soars and it just heightens the emotion behind the song that much more… The chorus of this song is practically a melodic wail, or cry of desperation.

Additionally, as I mentioned, I think everyone can relate to never quite getting over that ‘someone’ in their life. They may be married with 7 children, but something like a ‘first love’ usually stays with you to some capacity… even if you’ve managed to move on to something equally fulfilling. It’s that ‘human’ thing that we all have living inside of us.

Music Trails: Brett Pruneau Releases EP “The Real Thing”

BY EVelin

Brett Pruneau Interview

Brett Pruneau has been touring throughout North America and Europe since the age of 17, with an emphasis on performing live with an ensemble of musical groups. He’s now releasing his own collection of songs on The Real Thing with a few unexpected twists fans will enjoy.

Hello Brett and welcome!  You just released a new EP! Tell us what inspires your music?

Hi there, so happy to get to talk to you! YES! I just released a brand new EP titled The Real Thing. It’s been my lifeline throughout this summer where the pandemic utterly decimated the arts industry — it was imperative that I had something to keep myself creative and moving forward, so I started this project almost immediately back in March when things started getting serious.

I definitely would say I feel inspired to make music from experiences that are relatable. I think being genuine and honest is so important, and that may sound cliche, but there are so many ‘fake’ aspects to life: social media unfortunately very seriously punctuates that reality. So this EP really focuses on genuine human interactions and the things we ALL feel that are “real’…. happiness and heartache being the most prominent, obviously. At the end of the day, we’re all just craving that ‘real thing’.

How did you choose the songs on the new EP? What was that process like?

This EP started off initially as just a collection of songs that I’ve been singing over the years but never went into the studio to record or release… and as I began compiling them, I really began to notice this thread of a theme forming. So I took that idea and started building upon it, adding a few originals written by some very talented colleagues — one being Mario Spinetti based in CA and the other Caleb Hoyer in NYC. Suddenly I felt this little spark of magic starting to grow.

The Real Thing was very much a collaborative effort between myself and my Producer, Brian McGrane, at Stream Valley Studios. He was instrumental in helping me realize this vision and understood exactly what I was trying to achieve right from the very start. I couldn’t have made this happen without Brian and his incredible range of talents.

Buzz Music: Brett Pruneau Drops a New EP, 'The Real Thing'

Welcome, Brett Pruneau! So great to catch up. Congrats on the new EP. Tell us all about it

Hi there! Thanks so much, it’s great to be able to chat with you about the new EP! ‘The Real Thing’ is my latest project and consists of 5 powerful and moving tracks that really center around a strong theme of 'human connection'. I think the desire for human interaction is something that has really been heightened during the current pandemic … We've all had unexpected experiences throughout this unexpected season- whether its the strengthening of a loving relationship or the unfortunate pining over one that’s been lost, the human condition just craves the things that are “real”.

How have you stayed inspired in 2020 during such a difficult year for most?

This EP has been my saving grace, to be honest…. the entertainment industry has been devastated by the COVID-19 Crisis, and unfortunately, here we are 9 months later with still no timeline for when we can hope to be singing for live audiences again. As soon as I realized this was going to be our reality for 2020 I immediately began working on ‘The Real Thing’. I couldn’t bare the thought of going such a long and indefinite amount of time without creating and sharing music. I feel so fortunate that I’ve had this outlet for myself, and even more fortunate that I now get to share it with those who will listen.
